My cattery is in Northern California. It’s a very small home-based cattery that I started after retirement. I wanted to show a cat as a pastime and have the love and companionship of a beautiful cat. I’ve always been fond of the British Shorthair breed since I was a child. When I set out to find my show cat, I was specifically looking for a male cat with a blue coat. However, when I stumbled upon the Silver Gene Variety, I fell in love and decided that was the type of cat I wanted as my constant loving companion.
During my search, I ended up falling in love with more than one cat. I ended up with a Black Silver Shaded British Shorthair Female and a Blue Silver Lynx Point British Shorthair Male, which is another pattern of the Silver Gene British Shorthair line. I couldn’t resist their rarity and uniqueness. Their ringtails are simply stunning. When I took my male cat to a show, one person humorously suggested that I should tell everyone that he was an albino raccoon – it really fits!
That’s how I ended up with a pair of show/breeder cats of the silver gene variety of the British Shorthair breed. They are the love of my life, and the kittens they produce are just bonuses. Therefore, all the kittens are raised as if they are part of the family – receiving ample attention and love from the day they are born.
I have acquired a wealth of knowledge about Silver Shaded, Color Point, and Chinchilla British Shorthair Cats and Kittens. I’ve made an effort to share extensive information about this unique and rare line of the British Shorthair breed on my website. The Silver Shaded and Chinchilla British Shorthairs originated in Europe in the 1970s and have been quite popular there and in most Eastern countries. This is where I found my cats since they were hard to find in the US. Although they are not yet widely recognized in the US, they are gaining popularity among pet owners and are starting to be seen more at shows.
You can find more information about these cats on my About the Breed page, and I plan to provide more details in the future. I am passionate about these cats, so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. I currently have three Blue Silver Shaded Chinchilla Point British Shorthair females and look forward to having more of these beauties in the future. By the way, Color Point cats almost always have blue eyes and are incredibly beautiful. When you pet them, it feels like touching velvet – it’s very hard to describe. If you haven’t seen Silver Shaded or Chinchilla British Shorthair cats or kittens, be sure to check out My Cats Page and the Previous Kitten Page for photos of my past litters and my little darlings.
My goal at Sasszkats is to provide your family with a new, loving member. That’s why I put in extra effort to socialize all my cats and kittens. Many people don’t realize the crucial importance of the socialization period, which only lasts from 2 to 7 weeks of age.
In Robert Tabor’s book “Cat Behavior: A Complete Guide to Understanding How Your Cat Works,” it is mentioned that Eileen Karsh discovered that the critical period for familiarizing kittens with people is between two to seven weeks of age. Kittens that are handled regularly during this time are more likely to be comfortable staying on someone’s lap and approaching people when they are older. On the other hand, kittens that are handled after this critical period, such as from weaning onwards, show no significant difference in behavior compared to kittens that were not handled at all. This suggests that handling kittens after the critical period does not socialize them as effectively as regular handling before weaning.
I believe this is very true. From the day the kittens are born, they are handled and become accustomed to human touch and affection. This care comes not only from me, but also from my family, friends, and other pets. As a result, we produce well-adjusted British Shorthair kittens that will bring joy to you and your family from the moment they get used to your home.
Choosing a kitten is a big decision, akin to choosing a new family member. It requires a lot of time, effort, and thought to find the right kitten for you and your family. This involves considerations such as the breed, color, temperament, and more. It’s important to think about how the new kitten will adjust, what you’ll need for your new pet, and whether you should show your kitten. Some people spend months or even years researching before making a decision, while others are just beginning. This is why I’ve provided a wealth of information on this website, to help you make the right choice for your family. Bringing a new pet into your home is a big commitment, but the joy and love you’ll experience once you welcome your well-socialized kitten into your life will make it all worthwhile.
