My Cattery is based in Northern California near Chico, Ca.  I am a very small home based Cattery. I started the cattery after I retired, I just wanted to Show a Cat as a pass time and have the love and companionship of a beautiful cat. The British Shorthair has always been a favorite of mine since I was a child. When I went looking for my Show Cat I was actually looking for a Male Blue in color. Upon seeing the Silver Gene Variety I feel in love and decided that was the cat that I wanted as my constant loving companion. During the search though, I feel in love with more than one cat, I ended up with a Black Silver Shaded British Shorthair Female and Blue Silver Lynx Point British Shorthair Male(another pattern of the Silver Gene British Shorthair line). I could not help myself for they were so rare and unique. And their ring tails are to die for. When I took my male to a show one person said I should tell everyone that he was an Albino Raccoon. LOL but it sure fits. So that is how I ended up with a pair of Show/Breeder cats of the silver gene variety of the British Shorthair Breed. They are the love of my life and the kittens are just added bonus’s. So all the Kittens are raised as if they are part of the family … under foot with ample amount of attention and love from the day they are born.  The Cattery is registered with both TICA and CFA
I have now learned a lot about the Silver Shaded, Color points and Chinchilla British Shorthair Cats and kittens. And I have tried to share as much information on the website about this very rare and unique line of the British Shorthair Breed. In Europe is where the Silver Shaded and Chinchillas British Shorthairs began back in the 1970s and they are quite popular over their, as well as most of the eastern countries. That is where my babies came from for it was hard to find them here in the US. Here in the US they are not as well known and just now starting to be sought more by Pet owners and seen more at shows. You can read more about the Silver Shaded and Chinchilla British Shorthairs cats/kittens on my About the Breed page. I will try to write more about them as time goes by . For I love talking about them, if you have any questions about them please feel free to contact me. 🙂 They have become my passion, and now that I have two Blue Silver Shaded Chinchilla Point British Shorthair females I am looking forward to years of having more little beauties under foot. By the way a Color Point kitten/cat will most always have blue eyes. Talk about beautiful … and then when you pet them OMG its like you don’t want to stop for it almost feels like velvet … very very hard to describe. So if you have never seen the Silver Shaded or Chinchilla British Shorthair kittens or cats please be sure to check out My Cats Page and also the Previous Kitten Page for photos of my past litters and my little loves.

My commitment and goal at Sasszkats is to bring into your family, another loving family member. That is why I work extra hard at socializing all my cats and kittens. Many people do not really understand the critical importance of the window of socialization that lasts only from 2 weeks to 7 weeks of age.

This quote is from Robert Tabor’s Cat Behavior: A complete guide to understanding how your cat works: “Eileen Karsh established that the window of the sensitive period for habituating kittens to people is from two weeks to seven weeks. Cats handled regularly during this time were prepared, when older, to stay on someone’s lap longer and approach people more readily. Cats that were handled after this period, that is from weaning onwards, behaved no differently from cats that had not been handled at all. …All too often, as young kittens they will not have been handled regularly. Brought into new homes where they are the focus of attention they receive lots of handling, yet it seems this will not socialize them as well as the little time spent each day before weaning.”

I believe this is so true, so from the day the kittens are born they are handled and know human touch and affection, not just from me but all my family, friends, and other pets. Thus bringing you and your family wonderful well adjusted British Shorthair kittens that are a joy the minute they get adjusted to your home.

I believe when choosing a kitten it is like choosing a new family member, and it is a huge decision. It takes lots of time, effort, and thought to choose the right kitten for you and your family.  From deciding on the breed, color, temperament and such. Then comes all the question of how will they adjust, what do I need for my new kitten, should I show him/her and so much more. Many of you have done months even years of research before finally deciding the right kitten for you, others are just starting. This is why I have placed a lot of information on this website so that you can make the right choice for you and your family. It’s a big commitment to bring another life long family member into your home. But I know the joy and love you will feel once you receive your well socialized kitten, and that you and your new bundle of love will live happily ever after.
